Cecilia Mwangi dedicates award to banana farmers

FORMER beauty queen and anti-jigger campaign ambassador Cecilia Mwangi (left) recently received an award for Social Impact by the Top 40 Under 40 Women in Kenya.
She dedicated the award to banana farmers in Murang'a. "Recently in Muranga, we held a major banana harvesting exercise with some of those farmers. It was my joy to witness this occasion, The bananas they planted after recovery were sold to a food company that will dry and grind them to make affordable cooking flour, These are people we have helped get back on their feet -literally and figuratively - they have become like extended family members to me and that's why I would like to dedicate this award to them. May it be a beacon of hope to the other 2 million jigger victims scattered all over this country."
Cecilia who has been the face of the fight against jiggers for eight years said the highest point "has been watching the transformation 'of previously jigger infested victims to turn to role models. As we speak, there are numerous recovered children and adults who are back to school or back to their farms after
being temporarily sidelined."
