Sand query caves in killing one in Machakos

A middle aged man has died after a sand cave he was working with his friends in Machau, Machakos county caved in.

The man together with his other two friends who were seriously injured are said to be harvesting sand last night when the block of sand above them collapsed.

Confirming the report Mua location chief Julius Ndasyo said that the two who were injured are suffering hands and leg injuries and are being treated at Machakos level 5 hospital.

“There were three men who were harvesting sand in a cave and by bad luck the block above them collapsed killing one and injuring two”. Ndasyo said.

Ndasyo says that with the help of the police who responded quickly to the matter they managed to take the injured to hospital where they are incorporating well.

The chief has also called on youths in the area to stop been used to harvest sand in risk places noting that this has caused a lot of loss in the community with many youths loosing their lives in these caves.

“I am calling upon youths in my area to stop risking their lives entering in this sand caves because the caves are bringing loss in my area.” Chief Ndasyo advised.

The body of the man who lost his life has been taken to Machakos level 5 hospital mortuary.
