Out of context, Maurice tells Makadem

Earlier this week, performer Makadem went on social media accusing Music Copyright Society of Kenya CEO Maurice Okoth of not being patriotic enough and playing Diamond Platnumz music during a presentation overseas.

However, speaking exclusively to NEWSPOT254, Maurice stated the particular slide that Makadem referred to was about lack of awareness and appreciation of the value of Kenya’s rich culture. “To show our Democracy in the culture sector, I showed a slide where local musicians exercised democratic right to picket and demand for 70 per cent airplay. I showed how a foreign song (Diamond’s Number One) dominated our airplay and was emphasing this is not right. Hence the National music policy and push for #playKEmusic.
Remember it was MCSK that highlighted this anomaly in our press release,” he added.
