Machakos county boasts of the best governor as ranked by research institutions in the country including Infotrak, Dr Alfred Mutua.
Here are five things you never knew about Dr Alfred Mutua.

1. He was raised in Kibera
 Dr Mutua was born and brought up at Makina area, Kibera slums in Nairobi. He attended Guadalupe Catholic Church Nursery school and later Toi Primary School in Kibera before his family shifted residence to Riruta.

2. Mutua was once a mjengo worker


As he waited to join form five, Mutua worked at a construction site to raise upkeep money. This Mutua says was his first job. The governor used to build walls an buildings in Kawangware and was good in mixing gravel and pushing wheelbarrow at the construction site.

3. Dropped out of School at some point 
Live was not so easy to the most seen successful governor as he dropped out of school at some point for lack of school fees. He was rescued by a church helder who paid his school fees up to form six before securing a scholarship with missionaries.

4. He was hunted for Govt Spokesman job
The governors says that he was noticed by retired president Mwai Kibaki while working in Dubai. The the communication minister Raphael Tuju asked him to send his CV, landing to the govt spokesman job and becoming the first one in the country. “While I was in Dubai, the government of President Mwai Kibaki took notice of me. The then Minister of Tourism and Communication Raphael Tuju asked me to send my resume, which I did,” Mutua says.

5. Won Machakos seat with 71%
Being the govt spokesman for 10 years, Dr Alfred Mutua resigned in September 2012 to vie for Machakos county Gubernatorial seat in the 2013 general elections on a Wiper ticket. He emerged the winner with 173,213 votes which is 71% of the casted votes in the election.
He later on March 27, 2013 assumed office as the first Machakos governor.
